A Special Day- Trinity's Baptism

Trinity was baptized at our church on Sunday. It was such a special day for all of us. The children were all invited to the front for Worship as a Child- their normal children's message time. Which probably confused our boys a little. So, they ended up sitting on the stairs (for like a second) before getting up to entertain. Our friend Eliza, who is also an Elder at the church and she sings with me too, introduced us and Trinity.

Then, it was time for the entertainment to begin...."hit it, Bakri!" Oh wait, maybe now isn't the time to jump from the stairs and do a little baptism dance. But, his little show did get quite a few laughs...And then, Daddy took the boys by the hand. Notice perfect Trinity in all of the photos. She didn't cry or make a peep. And it's funny how happy Moustapha and I look. I guess we're just enjoying it. You know, kids will be kids. And life is too short to worry about the little things. I am really glad we are at this point and that we got there together. It is a great thing!
Moustapha read Isaiah 40:28-31 to Trinity and became emotional, which of course made all of us emotional. It was very touching. What a sweet daddy.

Trinity went to Pastor Jeff with ease. Here he is preparing the water.

He placed the water on her head and she immediately put his hand in her mouth. She is getting her first two teeth, so why not find something to chew on? That was another moment that got a lot of laughter from the congregation.
After the baptism, Pastor Jeff walked Trinity down the aisle and we all followed. The entire congregation moved to the center and extended their hands to pray for her and our family. What an incredible experience.
Grandma and her sweet Granddaughter, Trinity.

Looking quite serious.

After the service, she was really ready for her nap. So, it was almost impossible to get a happy look from her.

Here are her 2 granddads (Jiddy and Grandfather) looking at her with such adoration. Can't you see it?Our family of five. Everybody was cooperating in this picture except Daddy!
The whole family! (at least all the family that was in town) Another picture of the family.

Our angel girl.
We were still trying to get a smile. It just didn't work. So, she thought she would chew on her bible.
On our way out, she gave a quick smile to Michael and Patricia and their family.

And then, she fell asleep. She's just about to close her eyes in this next photo.
At home, we had a little lunch to celebrate. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of the table. But, here is the menu on our kitchen chalkboard. Moustapha gave me new chalk pens and I am in love with changing out the messages. It is so fun!
Me and Miss T. Check out the double holophane light in the kitchen. I'll post an update about that soon with before and after pics. But, I'll just say quickly that Moustapha did an AMAZING job restoring it, wiring it and hanging it. He can seriously do ANYTHING!

Trinity's cake, which matched her invitation.
Trinity and Grandmother. Trinity has just started putting her thumb in her mouth. She isn't sucking it, but I think she may be feeling her top gums for some new teeth.
Happy Trinity with Grandfather.

Our friends Jamil and Carter came to the lunch with their 2 girls. Here's a picture of us with the babies. I love how each baby is looking at the other baby's mommy. So sweet.
Jiddy on an international call and somehow baby Trinity stayed asleep.
Trinity smiling with Grandmother. The boys all love Trinity.

Christian came over to give her a hug and a kiss and tell her "goodbye." He is such a sweet little boy.
Thank you for looking at our pictures and story from T's baptism day. It means a lot to be able to share these special times with you our family and friends. God bless you.

Bakri and Elizabeth- The Flashlight

Bakri stayed the night with my parents last night. And my mom emailed me this story this morning. I thought it was so cute, that I didn't want to forget it and I'm sharing it with you.
When Bakri went to bed last night he asked my mom to get the flashlight- she needs it to get around in the dark. :-) Anyway, she must have named it once and so he asked "what's the flashlight's name?" and my mom couldn't remember. This is the rest of the story as told by Bakri's Grandmother:

"Bakri is still asleep. He went to sleep right after we went to bed. Bekah, he is so smart. I let him point the flashlight on the ceiling after I went in there. It actually looks like a face of a woman when it projects. Anyway, I told you I couldn't remember the name I gave the "flashlight lady" so as he was shining the light on the ceiling he said "Elizabeth" "Elizabeth the Queen". That's it! I called her Queen Elizabeth and he called her Elizabeth the Queen. I said "Bakri, you are so smart". He smiled and said "Thank you". He is so precious."

Cute Videos of Trinity and Maddux

Trinity loves peaches. And, this is How much!

Trinity had a big week. She learned to clap her hands this week. She also turned 8 months old yesterday and is pulling up on everything and walking around the furniture. Slow down, girlie! In this video, she is clapping and Maddux is singing to her.

Tee-Ball, Art Car Parade and Michael's 45th

I can't believe it has been 2 weeks since I've posted anything. I guess I have some catching up to do. So, here goes.

Bakri's tee-ball season ended last week. He played tee-ball with his cousin James again. They were the youngest on their team and they really improved throughout the season. They will stay in tee-ball until they turn 7. So, they really have a long way to go. It's exciting and Bakri has so much fun. He says, "I love baseball so much." Maddux, James and Bakri after the final tee-ball game of the season.

We celebrated Michael's 45th birthday at his house after Saturday's game. We couldn't help but reflect on how much God has blessed all of us over the last 5 years. When my brother turned 40, it was a happy time, but also kind of sad. Just because he and Patricia really wanted to have a family. But, look at us now. They now have 3 boys and my parents have 6 grandchildren. It is so fun!

Christian, Michael and Patricia's 2 year old- riding the pony.

I think this was a dance move James was trying out...Christian fell asleep at the table...so tired.

Bakri sprinting to third base! Go Bakri! Go!

Bakri actually stays in his position now. If you've ever had the pleasure of watching a tee-ball game, you know that is an accomplishment for the youngest players. We are super proud!

I love this picture of Trinity looking through the fence at the baseball game.

The same day as our Saturday tee-ball game, we also went to the annual Art Car Parade and saw some pretty cool cars!

And, we got a surprise visit from Cousin Shawne. Melinda was totally shocked...but, eventually she figured it out.

Miss T with Shawne.

Maddux meeting Cousin Shawne for the first time. She ended up down in the dirt with him.

Updated Pictures of Our Kitchen Remodel

As most of you know, our home was built in 1928. And when we bought it, it pretty much had the original kitchen (or at least a kitchen that had not been updated in a really long time.) In early 2008 we encountered a leak which flooded the kitchen and forced us to make a decision- either patch up the problem with the old galvanized steel plumbing or fix the problem long term. We opted for new copper plumbing and a brand new kitchen.

In the 60s the previous owners (who raised their large family in this house and lived here for 50 years) added on to the home. They added a den and an upstairs bedroom and a second stairwell. It is really a great addition to the home. However, they added directly on to the back of the house, without ever removing the back wall including the brick. The pictures below show what the kitchen looked like before. It had the original kitchen window which looked into our den. Check it out! Our remodel is nearly complete- only a few minor touches remain.

The picture below is of the before kitchen looking into the den. You can see the fan in the window and the back windows in the den if you look carefully. We removed this wall.
The picture below is the same view of our kitchen now. We removed the wall and added support columns. Moustapha and I designed this kitchen ourselves. We love it!
This was the back corner of our kitchen before. It had a hot water heater in the corner of the kitchen. It was awful. There was absolutely no storage space in the before kitchen.
And now....this is the same corner! We have storage above the refrigerator. And, a pantry on the right side.

Here is another view looking into the den. The original house had a telephone cubby built in as you went up the stairs. We left that and opened it to the kitchen. You can see it on the right of the picture.

Here's a view of the kitchen from the den. Two things that need to be finished in the picture are the rangehood- it is going to be wrapped in stainless steel. And there is currently a microwave on the left counter. That microwave fits in the cabinet below. We are just waiting on a piece from the stainless steel fabricator, so we can move the microwave off the countertop.

This last picture shows another view of the kitchen. In the before kitchen, we had a bathroom where this window is. We were able to relocate the bathroom under the second stairwell. And we put in a beautiful new window. Our O'Keefe and Merritt stove still works wonderfully and Moustapha is nearly finished restoring it. I'll post more pictures when the kitchen is complete. Thanks for checking it out!
