El Spring Break 2010- Let's put these kids to work!

So, we didn't really put the Els to work for Spring Break. But, since I had the three of them at home with me the entire week with no breaks, we tried to stay busy. Here is a sampling of what we were up to:

We planted blueberries and blackberries and helped prepare an area where daddy added lots of brick pavers.

Notice how Trinity is really getting into this!

On the last day of Spring Break we ventured out. This was our ride on the ferris wheel at the Downtown Aquarium.

We also had a visit to the zoo on the last day of Spring Break. What an adventure. We usually go when it is mellow during the week. Yikes. Remind me not to go over Spring Break next year. It's a ZOO!

More fun at home!

We enjoyed spending the week together and especially enjoyed the huge improvement in the weather. It has made all the difference to be able to spend more time outside at least before it gets too hot. Happy Spring everyone!

Rodeo Houston 2010- A lot of Effort for a Day of Fun

Well, it turns out that going to the rodeo with three kids under the age of 5 is a challenge whether you venture out alone or with your husband.

Last year I went alone and nearly had a heart attack...walking, cleaning up a messy diaper just before boarding a tram, controlling 2 boys, orchestrating a pony ride for both of them and keeping the baby happy. It was tough! But, the kids had a great time. Me?- not so much. But, it's not about me, right? So, this year, at the request of many family members and friends, I recruited my husband for El Rodeo Day! I figured this would be more enjoyable for all. It definitely was more enjoyable for the kids. But, at the end of it all, after being exhausted from all of the things we did last year and did again this year (minus the near heart attack- thankfully!) I looked at Moustapha and asked him "At what age do you think our kids have to be for the rodeo to be fun for us again?"

Fast forward to 1 hour later when all of the kids are asleep in their beds at 6pm. The boys were so exhausted, they slept the entire night. Trinity will not miss a meal, so she woke up for that and quickly returned to a restful sleep. I would say that is the payoff for all of the work. We had a really quiet night. :-)

Sometimes it takes a lot of effort to have fun!

Growing Up So Fast

I've always heard the saying "they grow up so fast." It is usually spoken when someone hasn't seen you or a child in a while. Often times, we hardly notice the growth that is taking place right in front of our eyes. I remember being in high school and having people tell me that this time was just going to fly by. At that time, I really didn't think so. I felt like time moved really slowly. Year to year was such a huge difference. And, the days at school seemed really long.

However, as soon as I hit my senior year in high school and from that time on, time has really flown by. College was a wonderful time. But, it really went by too fast. As soon as it was over, and I had graduated, I was ready to do it again. (no, not grad school, just repeat college with all my friends and professors.)

Luckily, it doesn't work like that. Although, if I could relive any day of my life, it would be my wedding day. It's the one day where there were so many special people surrounding us and I wish I could go back and take it really really slow. That day flew by!

Now, that we have our children, time seems to have sped up. Possibly it's still moving slowly for my little ones. But, for us, we are on the fast track. One moment, I am diapering a bottom and the next moment that child is getting ready to start kindergarten. Unbelievable! I hope I can look back and know that I enjoyed these moments while I had them. I know there is plenty to look forward to. But, I don't want to miss the now.
